IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING FLOOD INSURANCE

In April 2011, FEMA published new flood maps for Denton County and as a result many homeowners will be receiving a notice from their mortgage or insurance company that they are now required to carry flood insurance. If you have received one of these notices you may be wondering what your next course of action should be.

LANDMARK SURVEYORS LLC is FEMA certified. Currently we are in the process of preparing elevation certificates and eLOMAS (electronic letter of map amendment). These can provide the required documentation to your mortgage or insurance company that could potentially result in the lowest possible flood insurance rates or in some cases, ELIMINATING THE NEED FOR FLOOD INSURANCE ALTOGETHER.

You may also want to consider that in some cases, flood insurance is a good thing, and while you certainly want the lowest rates, be aware that there is a 30 DAY WAIT FOR COVERAGE, once you apply. FEMA has instituted this policy to prevent prospective insured from rushing to buy in the face of an impending disaster. In other words, whether you wind up carrying flood insurance or not, acting quickly will be to your advantage.
